First Lesson: Don’t cry over spilled milk

As we departed Burr Yacht sales into Selby Bay we encountered 25 knot winds with 4 ft seas without the use of an autopilot.  The autopilot had been installed the prior week and needed to be initialized…..in calm seas;….we tried anyway and with one of the turns we had a bit of a roll…which encouraged the full gallon of milk to jump off the top shelf of the refrigerator and explode on the galley/saloon floor.  The cleanup crew of Jesse and Joe were quick to mop up the mess, get the carpets hosed off….meanwhile Ray was christening the port-side, missing the whole event.

After we passed north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge the seas settled down and we were able to finally initialize the autopilot and head on to Baltimore to fill the fuel tanks.  IN calm seas, Chef Rondeau created some marvelous Bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwiches.  The seas continue to smooth out and by the time we were at the C& D canal we had 1.5 knots current pushing us along in flat seas.

We made it to our destination by 6:30 pm at Delaware City Marina and headed off for some scrumptious crab cakes at Crabby Dicks, stopped for more milk and most of the crew promptly found their berths….to prepare for the next adventure on Kairos.

  1. Rookie move not having fridge door secured from opening. The captain should of cleaned the milk due to his dereliction of duty by not instructing his crew to secure and stow away all maters prior to departing. The roge wave or squal can always be over the horizon!!
    Good thing jessi there to oversee matters.

      1. Those shoddy Flemming engineers !!
        Maybe your hull was manfactured during the lean recession years when in a cost control measure flemmimg fired all the craftsman and subsequently hired all the laid off laborers from the closed Bayliner factory.
        Or perhaps the more likely scenario is you need to have latch securement drills for the crew. Happy travels today.
